- åCount Strategy
-
- The count strategy is changed by selecting the Count Strategy menu item
-
- under the Strategy menu. When selected a dialog box appears. The dialog
-
- box is divided into four logical sections. The first section allows you to
-
- change how particular cards are counted.

- »There are rows corresponding to each of the card values ace through ten.
-
- There are columns corresponding to each of the suits. The reason for
-
- separate columns for each suit is to allow practicing with counting
-
- systems such as Snyder’s Red 7 which require you to count red cards
-
- differently than black cards. The replicate button will cause the values for
-
- the “spades” to be copied to the other columns for those times when it is
-
- not important to differentiate between the suits.
-
- The second section of the dialog allows you to change the count at which
-
- insurance is taken.

- »This section allows you to specify whether to use the true or running
-
- counts, or not to use a count at all. It allows you to specify that the
-
- running count is converted to the true count by dividing by the nearest full
-
- deck, half deck, or quarter deck. Finally, it allows you to specify that
-
- Blackjack Trainer should allow some leeway when it calculates the count.
-
- Although Blackjack Trainer can keep track of the exact count at any
-
- instant, a human is unlikely to be as accurate. Judging whether a quarter
-
- deck is left or a half deck is left is difficult as the border between those
-
- points is approached. If imprecise conversion is checked, Blackjack
-
- Trainer will not correct you when you’ve made a correct decision based
-
- upon a count that is plus or minus one from the exact count. For example,
-
- suppose the exact count is 3 and your playing strategy says to double
-
- down a player hand of ten against an ace for counts of 3 or higher. If
-
- imprecise conversion is checked, Blackjack Trainer will allow either
-
- decision (to double or not to double) because it is reasonable for you to
-
- think the count is 2. If the exact count were either 4 or greater or 1 or
-
- lower, Blackjack Trainer would correct you if you make the wrong
-
- decision.
-
- The final area of the dialog allows you to specify a betting strategy based
-
- on the count.
